The many military burials here include a veteran of the Spanish American War, as well as numerous veterans of World Wars I and II, Korea, and Vietnam. The most recent casualty was from the Gulf War in 1991.

This book contains each of the eight volumes of minister's returns with an index for each volume. In each book the grooms are presented in alphabetical order, followed by an index to the brides. These Marriage Records of Jackson County, Independence MO includes the years 1827-1881. Until the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 that created the territories, Missouri was the western terminus of civil law. Soldiers from Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas and of Colorado Cavalry are found in these volumes. Workers from the Shawnee Indian Mission are also included. Thus there are county residents, and many are from other areas as well.
